Recclesia Stained Glass has been commissioned to undertake the next phase of stained glass conservation and repair work at St Alkmund's Church in Whitchurch, Shropshire working alongside Buttress Architects. We completed a large phase of work to the three stained glass windows of the Apse between 2016 and 2018 and then undertook further survey work of the North and South Aisles in 2019.
This phase of work will focus on the South Aisle, the stained glass along which is in very varied condition. The windows themselves are quite enormous in true Georgian style, each being some 8ft by 22ft high, with very large modular cast iron frames. The central window is by Henry Hughes (of Ward and Hughes fame), made in 1868 and featuring Joseph in Egypt.
The studio began the work on the South Aisle in November 2019 and will complete the work in 2020.
